Cold Brew With Hario Filter-In Bottle

Cold Brew coffee is a great way to enjoy coffee, especially during the warmer months when it's refreshing brews become a real treat to beat the heat. It is easy to make once you know how, especially if you use a brewing device like the Hario Filter-In Bottle like we will below. The only real downside is the brewing time. Unlike other brewing methods which take minutes to prepare, Cold Brew typically takes hours. So a little forward planning is required, or you might find yourself waiting with anticipation.

 

You Will Need

Coffee
Scale
Grinder
Hario Filter-In Coffee Bottle
Water


Our Standard Recipe

Ready To Drink Method
58g coffee, 700g water, 97°C (1:12 ratio)


Brew Method

  1. Weigh 58g of coffee and grind to a medium coarse setting
  2. Place the ground coffee into the strainer of the Hario Filter-In bottle
  3. Fit the strainer onto the bottle spout and place on top of the Hario Filter-In bottle
  4. Pour 700g of cold or room temperature water into the Hario Filter-In bottle via the spout
  5. Insert the bottle stopper and place the Hario Filter-In bottle in the fridge
  6. Rest for 12 hours
  7. After 12 hours the coffee is ready to serve. Enjoy!

Notes:

  • The brew ratio used in this recipe is 1:12 or 12g of water for every gram of coffee. This produces a brew which is ready to drink. 
  • To make a concentrate, reduce the ratio of coffee to water. 1:5 is a good starting point. The other steps will be the same. You can dilute the contrate to taste by adding water before consuming.
  • Experiment with different coffee to water ratios, grind size and brew time to achieve your most desired flavour profile.
  • For a really refreshing fruit driven treat, we recommend trying this using co-fermented or infused coffees.
