Sebastîan Alcåntara established Finca Flor Morada in the north eastern region of Cajamarca in Peru, in the district of San José del Alto. High altitude and good rainfall make San José del Alto a great place for coffee to thrive, and the area is known to produce good quality coffee, with coffee from the area having represented at Peru’s Cup of Excellence competition in recent years.
Sprawling over 3.5 hectares, Finca Flor Morada primarily grows Bourbon and Catuai varietals. However, Sebastîan is carefully transitioning to Marsellesa, a varietal that produces a higher yield and is noted for it’s acidity. Sebastîan also believes it produces a superior cup and suits his aim of producing sweet and complex coffees that will further enhance the region’s, and his own, reputation for quality.
We found this coffee to be comforting in the cup, dominated by milk chocolate flavours, the sweetness of sugar cane and accentuated by notes of cherry and subtle flavours of orange and pear. Combining with milk reveals some nuttiness reminiscent of hazelnuts.
